The Scoop Mission
Scoop is a publication dedicated to bringing together more than 6,000 students, faculty and alumni of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media at the University of Tennessee. By engaging the reader with the exceptional innovations, experiences and successes of our readers, Scoop celebrates and investigates the work of JEM, both past and present.
Put together by the magazine industry workshop class, Scoop offers students the chance to gain valuable experience by:
• Writing quality, magazine-style articles
• Editing student and alumni-written stories
• Taking poignant, vivid photographs
• Designing colorful page spreads that captures reader attention
• Selling advertisements to make the magazine financially self-sufficient.
To our readers, Scoop works to:
• To inspire and involve our 6,000 readers
• To celebrate and investigate the work of JEM
• To inform, honor and connect its audience with alumni-written columns, Q&A articles, research spotlights and photo contests
